DO TRAIN HAVE A "STEERING WHEEL" ?
~ Baranwal sumitHELLO FRIENDS,
Most of time we are blaming loco pilot (train driver) for changing arrival & departure of platform .
but it is totally a wrong assumption as loco pilot is not having control of the direction of train (locomotive) .
Now come to the solution of our question , "There is no steering in a train as all the steering is controlled & monitored by the control station . The train wheels are fixed by solid axles, it is only direction controlled via controlling tower" .
Then what type of wheel is provided to loco pilot , Which is also shown in picture below

- Electric overhead line
- Panto-graph
- Auto-transformer
- Rectifiers
- Heat exchanges
- Traction motor
- Air/vacuum braking system
In the Auto-transformer we required tapping to control output voltage & speed of the trains
so above pic of wheel is "TAPPING WHEEL"
loco pilot only control speed of the train , brakes & maintain stability on the fixed track as trains change there tracks by the liver mechanism .
Trains wheel having tapper profile which are regularly finish by the CNC* ( computer numerical control ). These tapper profile help in turning on the railway track.
